Description
The many ways in which mountains influence atmospheric processes lead to important spatial variations in the precipitation pattern. In the Alps, within a distance of less than 100 km there can be differences in mean precipitation that are as marked as that between Crete and the west coast of Scotland. The character of the land and the presence of natural ecosystems are marked by the precipitation pattern.

Die vielfältigen Einflüsse eines Gebirges auf die Prozesse der Atmosphäre verursachen grosse räumliche Variationen im Niederschlagsklima. So findet man beim mittleren Jahresniederschlag im Alpenraum auf einer Distanz von weniger als 100 km Unterschiede, die so gross sind wie zwischen Kreta und der schottischen Westküste. Die Niederschlagsverhältnisse prägen den Charakter einer Landschaft und das Vorkommen natürlicher Ökosysteme.

Les multiples influences d’un massif montagneux sur les processus atmosphériques se manifestent par d’importantes variations climatiques régionales des précipitations. Ainsi trouve-t-on dans l’espace alpin, sur moins de 100 km, des différences de précipitations annuelles moyennes aussi grandes qu’entre la Crète et la côte ouest de l’Ecosse. Les conditions de précipitations influent sur le caractère d’une région et son écosystème.

Le notevoli oscillazioni spaziali che interessano le precipitazioni vanno ricondotte a processi atmosferici variamente condizionati dai rilievi montani. Questo spiega perché le differenze dell’altezza di precipitazione media annuale nella sola regione alpina, anche entro distanze di meno di 100 km, siano equiparabili, ad esempio, a quelle che intercorrono tra Creta e la costa occidentale della Scozia. Le precipitazioni caratterizzano il paesaggio e gli ecosistemi.
